Newsletter May 2003
As our well travelled guests pointed out, there are
not many places in Africa where one is able to count
“9” different mammal species around the
waterhole at one time. With our record still standing
at 14 mammals seen together at one time, they seem to
think this may indeed be an “ALL TIME RECORD”.
Seeing 3 of the “BIG FIVE” together at
one time is seen more and more frequently. Our semi-resident
rhino wonder through the camp like they own the place.
Yesterday the “BIG WHITE RHINO BULL” walked
into camp, had a drink and then casually walked past
our guests who were on their ‘early morning walk’
and had stopped to observe “4 LIONESSES”.
The rhino ambled past both the walkers and the lionesses,
oblivious to their presence. Our waterhole is as busy
as the normal dry season rush with elephant and buffalo
coming in by the hundreds.
With winter well on it’s way we have resumed
our ever popular evening fire, where excited guests
exchange their days experiences. We have observed that
the animals
encountered, get bigger and bigger, or closer and closer
as the night wears on!!!!!
“GOOD NEWS” for all our self drive guests
who have been concerned about the lack of fuel in Zimbabwe
there is a plan of action being negotiated to ensure
fuel for our guests at special outlets. We will advise
you as soon as it is all in place.
Flying into Victoria Falls and transferring by road
with one of the many reputable companies to Hwange is
still a safe and comfortable option.
Best wishes from all at "THE HIDE"
