Rovos Rail to Hwange National Park

Dear Mr Beck Edwards

Between 1994 and 2000 we ran our train from Pretoria to Victoria Falls travelling through Zimbabwe via Bulawayo. In March 2000 we changed our journey to exclude the trip through Zimbabwe and transferred our guests from Polokwane (Pietersburg) to Livingstone by air after a 48 hour train journey in South Africa.

The main reason for this correspondence is to make you aware that we will be reinstating the direct service by rail between Pretoria and Victoria Falls. This will be a three day, two night itinerary each way. The first journey will commence on 27 July out of Pretoria and will operate every second week after that. Our train will remain in Victoria Falls for the night so our crew and management can prepare the train for the new group embarking on Sunday for the trip back to Pretoria.

Please would you introduce Rovos Rail and this journey to your front office staff and guest relations department. We would also appreciate you advising prospective guests and agents booking your product that Rovos Rail can now be used as a mode of transport to and from Victoria Falls.

We need your help for this project to be successful.

The Victoria Falls

A Leisurely Sojourn By Luxury Train

1 July 2006 – 30 September 2006

This is the new itinerary from 1 July 2006 onwards – contact reservations@rovos.co.za for 2007 rates

This two-night adventure begins as the train departs Rovos Rail’s gracious station at Capital Park in Pretoria.
This special journey departs in the morning and slowly meanders north towards Warmbaths, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn just
after the station of Soekmekaar. Once over the Soutpansberg mountains, north of Louis Trichardt we enter Baobab country.
Few sights are more evocative of primeval Africa than the eerie silhouette of a Baobab tree starkly outlined against a ruddy
African sunset. South African border formalities will take place at Messina and then, very slowly over Beit Bridge, the train heads
into Zimbabwe. A visit will be made (time permitting) to the interesting Museum of Natural History in Bulawayo. The train will
continue in a north-westerly direction passing through Thompson’s Junction and Hwange Game Reserve
to journeys end, the incomparable Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River
