services
No inoculations are required however vaccinations for

Malaria
Malaria is present in most low altitude areas in Zimbabwe.
It is therefore recommended to take Malaria Prophylaxis
during your stay in Zimbabwe. The Hide has so far not
had a case of malaria in any guests or staff, however
we can not guarantee that our area is Malaria free.
Our tents are all treated with insect repellent and
we have mosquito gauze on all windows. We recommend
that guest where long sleeved shirts, trousers and socks
in the evening as well as mosquito repellent.

US Dollars cash are accepted in most places. Please
bring enough small notes as change is often not available.
Please also note to bring notes with “large heads”
– “small heads” are not accepted anywhere.
Tipping
Tipping is common in Zimbabwe, especially if you are
happy with the service received. At restaurants 10%
of the total bill is the norm.
In camp all tips are distributed equally among guides
and staff by the management. Please place your tips
into the envelopes provided and hand them over to the
management before departure.

220 -240 A C. Hairdryers can be used (are not provided)
and video/camera batteries can be recharged. Please
ask management for assistance.

We advise you to insure yourself fully. We highly recommend
a full Trip Cancellation insurance – we do need
to charge cancellation fees as stipulated.
Photography
Please be sensitive when photographing local people
and their villages. Ask the guide or the people first.
Be careful when photographing building (especially army
property) and people in uniforms. Please ask first or

What to bring on safari
You should always travel with a soft bag as hard suitcases
are impractical especially on charter flights and transfers
in vehicles. If you are using a small plane at any time
during your travels please limit your luggage to a maximum
of 12kgs.
• Hat
• Sunglasses
• High factor sunscreen
• Moisturizer
• Lip balm (with sun protection)
• Insect repellent
• Anti-histamine cream/tablets
• Other personal toiletries and personal medication
• Clothes – we have a daily laundry service
so there is no need to bring too much clothing. We recommend
the following:
- 3 sets bush coloured safari outfits (longs/shorts/shirts)
i.e. green, brown, dark khaki not pale fashion khaki/cream/white).
- 2 sets casual evening clothes (long trousers to
reduce insect bites)
- A jersey for the cooler evenings. In our winter
months (mid May to mid August) please bring a warm
jacket and other warm clothing.
- During the rainy season (mid November to April)
a rain jacket is recommended
- A good pair of walking shoes is essential to enjoy
game walks. A pair of thick soled trainers are adequate
for game walks, however walking shoes/boots are essential
for Walking Safaris.
- Swimming costume – for a refreshing dip in
our plunge pool overlooking our waterhole.
- Please avoid camouflage clothing (even fashion items)
as it is illegal to wear in Zimbabwe and some arrests
of person wearing camouflage has been reported.
• Binoculars – One pair per person is essential
– sharing does not work!
• Torch – One per person (please bring spare
batteries)
• Glasses – sunglasses are essential to
protect you eyes against the sun and insects when game
watching on the back of an open vehicle.
- If you wear prescription glasses please bring a
spare pair.
- If you wear contact please bring a pair of glasses
too as dust can be a problem
Camera/Video equipment
