News on Zimbabwe
PLEASE NOTE:-
Zimbabwe once again is coming under severe international
scrutiny, which is having a knock on effect on tourism.
It is important to keep all travelers well informed
about the true situation in Zimbabwe.
Due to:
a. The recent move by the Zimbabwe government and the
'final push' in their land reform programe, which has
drawn a huge amount of international interest;
b. The re-appointment of the Zimbabwe cabinet;
c. International media exposure of current food shortages
etc;
d. The 'earth summit' currently being held in South
Africa, seen as the perfect stage set / opportunity
for world leaders & heads of state to address the
"Zimbabwe crisis" especially in the light
of "sustainable development";
e. And the list goes on, all of which has put Zimbabwe
back under the spot light.
Because of the above, Zimbabwe is now prominently featured
by all the major news media around the world. This renewed
'negative exposure' has, once again, generated a lot
of apprehension & concern, particularly to any potential
tourist. We need to be very open & honest with you
the travelers & reassure you that despite the current
goings on, Zimbabwe is still a safe & wonderful
place to visit even now.
Any of you tourists traveling to any of the main tourist
destinations like Vic Falls, Hwange, Kariba, Matopos,
the Zambezi & Mana Pools etc are not effected by
the current goings on. Tourists were never a target.
Entry into Zimbabwe by air via Harare, Bulawayo or
Vic Falls is as safe as Sydney or Stockholm, as are
the road transfers to any tourist destination within
Zimbabwe.
The politically affected places are the white owned
commercial farms. Tourists would generally have no need
to venture into those affected areas.
The economically affected places with food shortages
are in the rural communal areas, where again tourists
would have no reason to visit. All tourists & tourism
facilities are totally unaffected by these shortages.
The bottom line is that we need to convince you the
travelers that despite what you might hear or see on
your television, there is nothing to worry about. Conditions
here in Zimbabwe right now are no less safe than they
were 3 or 6 months ago. No one anywhere in the world
can guarantee your safety, no matter where you go.
Fortunately we are still having a steady stream, albeit
small, of foreign tourists who continue to experience
& enjoy the beauty Zimbabwe has to offer, everyone
of whom are happy that they did come despite the negative
publicity & warnings before hand. They can't believe
how peaceful and friendly everyone is, and ask, "where
are the problems we heard so much about ?"
This letter is all 100% true, it may convince any of
you who may be thinking of not coming due to the negative
exposure that Zimbabwe is currently getting. We would
like to ask all our happy guests if they wouldn't mind
being contacted as a witness to these above facts. Word
of mouth always seems better.
